Possible Charity Project: Blankets to Japan?

Like pretty much everyone else, we woke up this morning to the news of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Our thoughts are with all those affected by these events, including all of our friends and loved ones living in the many areas currently under tsunami warnings.
Fellow blind crocheter and blog-friend Ro, would like to start some sort of aid project for those in need. She would like it to be something a little more personal than just donating money. So, she has suggested we crochet/knit blankets to send to Japan, because for her (and a lot of us) a nice, warm hand-made blanket is worth much more than the money and time it takes to make it. What do you think fellow crocheters and knitters? Would you be willing to participate?

  1. I have a have-completed lightweight throw that isn't earmarked for anyone that I could complete and donate. Are there any details ironed out yet?

  2. Cool! I think she's still trying to figure out the most important details (and looking for suggestions), but Ro did make a follow up post about the blanket project HERE.

  4. Well, it's not my project, so you will have to follow up on Ro's blog, using the links provided above, but I'm pretty sure she determined that it's nearly impossible to ship things to Japan right now, since any port that is actually still open will only be allowing medical supplies through. You can always contact your local Red cross though, and see what they suggest.
